Located in the heart of the Coquetdale Valley, on the edge of the Northumberland National Park, Black Chirnells holiday cottage offers every creature comfort for a warm, welcoming stay in Northumberland. A traditional 200-year-old 2 bedroom holiday cottage, with lots of character and atmosphere, it has a beamed sitting room, a modern kitchen and bathroom and a charmingly designed sheltered sunny Northumberland garden. Two bedrooms sleep up to 4.

The stone-built cottages, once a croft with a mill on the upper floor, were formerly part of the Church's estates. It has a magical atmosphere which wraps itself round everyone who stays here, and combined with the splendid views of the surrounding countryside, has visitors feeling refreshed and revitalised within a few days.

It continues to be awarded an ETB 4 star grading every year, is fully centrally heated throughout, has been recently modernised and is very comfortably furnished. The cottages sunny sitting room, with views of the Simonside Hills from the two window seats, has a dining alcove seating 6, is well equipped with comfy squashy sofas, has colour TV, video, hi-fi, selection of videos, CDs, books and games and a telephone for local and incoming calls. The cottages luxury fitted kitchen is well equipped with all new appliances, ceramic hob, microwave oven, fridge/freezer and dishwasher and looks out over the neighbouring fields.

Raffles, who has now "retired", can be seen every morning grazing his favourite patch in the fields opposite. Upstairs is a light, spacious double bedroom with window seats looking out over the Simonside Hills and Cheviots. Across the landing is a single bedroom with its own washbasin, with pull-out bed for a fourth person.

The cottage is ideal for a walking/cycling/bird watching holiday or as a touring base to explore the county. Walks start from the front door to the nearby woods and close by are good pubs and restaurants in Thropton (approx 15 mins walk) and good golf courses (Linden Hall, Rothbury). A short drive away is Cragside House, the gardenthe first house to be powered with hydroelectricity, which has extensive parks and gardens well worth visiting, while Alnwick, famous for its Castle and gardens (not to mention Harry Potter and Hogwarts Academy) is just 20 minutes drive through some of the most spectacular scenery in Northumberland. Just north-east of Alnwick is Dunstanburgh Castle, well known for its seabirds, wildlife and flowers.

The Northumberland coast and beaches are easily accessible from the cottage, and the Farne Islands, renowned for birds and seals, are only an hour's drive away. Overlooking the Farne Islands is historical Bamburgh Castle, towering over the village. Kielder Water and Forest Park, about one hour's drive away, offers sailing, riding, fishing, cycling and many other activities.

Parking space for two cars is off-road, next to the cottages. There is space for storing bikes under cover. Heating is included in the price. All linen and towels are provided, and the bed(s) will be made up for your arrival.

The cottage is for non-smokers; pets by arrangement.
